Book Locations

Library Organization

Our libraries use the Library of Congress method to organize books. This means that each book has a unique letter and number combination that acts like a house address, which tells you where a book is located. It is the little sticker on the spine of the book. Similar books are grouped together so you can browse.

Call numbers looks like this:

RT 85 .F79 2008

Some useful locations to look for Nursing books are:

R - Medicine
  • RA - Public Health
  • RS - Pharmacy
  • RT - Nursing

Tips for searching

When searching the Aurora College Library Catalog, select "Books" or "EBooks" from the Source Type filter. This will show you only books that the libraries have.

When doing research in the Nursing program, you will often be searching for multiple subjects or ideas.

For example, you could be looking for information on infant diabetes in a specific location.

To help you find a more relevant materials use BOOLEAN OPERATORS. This is a tool that allows you to combine different ideas into one search.

For example, you could search:

"infant diabetes" AND "Northwest Territories"

instead of

infant diabetes of the Northwest Territories

You will get two different groups of search results by using those two different search requests. For more information on boolean operators, click here.
