Research Data Management

A collection of information to assist with RDM

What is a Data Management Plan?

A data management plan (DMP) is a step-by-step outline of how your research data will be handled throughout your project- and beyond. It will serve as a guide for everything from naming files, to backing up your work, to how your data will be disseminated once the research is complete. Not only are they a sound research practice, DMPs are now a requirement for many sources of research funding.

The Digital Research Alliance of Canada has developed an online tool to guide researchers through the process of  drafting DMPs that conform to internationally recognized standards. It allows for customization by discipline or project requirements, includes templates and examples, and allows plans to be revised as your project progresses. The Tri-agencies accept DMPs created using this tool
